Ray at Night Art Walk
Final preparations for the Ray at Night Art Walk are on going. Dropped off the photographs at Warp 9 Imaging last night and still need to print out a short bio. I'm really excited to show my work to the public for the first time. Can't wait to hear all the reactions and feedback. See all my San Diego folks there.

What a Deal
In search of a 35mm prime lens and some filters, I found my way to the Bargain Camera Swap Meet at the Al Bahr Shrine center yesterday. My first experience at a camera swap meet and and I have to say I think I came out on top. I ended up coming home with my 35mm, 2 Hoya 52mm filters, 3 light stands, a reflector holder, 2 speedlight light stand adapters, and 2 speedlight soft boxes with mounts for $460. Not a bad deal if I say so myself. The next Bargain Camera Show in San Diego is Sunday, May 22, 2011 at the Al Bahr Shrine Center. Maybe you'll have as good as luck as I did.

Three for Three
At the beginning of the year I joined "The Darkroomers", a photography club here in San Diego. They meet every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month at the Building of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park. I thought this would be a great opportunity for me to meet other photographers and to show some of my work. The group focuses on print photography, which finally forced me to get a new printer (Epson Stylus Photo R2880) and actually print my work. So far I've really enjoyed the entire process from releasing the shutter button to looking at my final print and everything in between.
The first meetings of the month are the critique nights where you can bring in up to 3 images to be judged by selected judges (usually professional photographers in the area). The judge will either accept or pass on the image and explain why he/she did so. If the photograph is accepted it will be hung in the building for exhibition. The last critique night I entered 3 images and all 3 were accepted!! It was fairly exciting as this is the first time my work has been shown in public. If you are in the San Diego area stop by the Photographic Arts Building in Balboa Park (between the Museum of Natural History and the Carousel). Check it out and tell me what you think by posting your comments.

On the Move
It has been a while since my last post but it has been a whirlwind of travel and moving. Last month I had the opportunity to travel to Colorado and New Mexico for a wedding and I can't explain how beautiful it was. The great thing about being a photographer though is I can show you, as a picture is worth a thousand words. My husband and I stayed in Telluride Colorado for the wedding and then made our way to New Mexico to visit family. I was able to see the mountains in the fall, which if you haven't seen it before, is a must. I also had the fortunate, yet lucky opportunity to go to the Albuquerque Balloon festival which was amazing. You are standing feet away from where the balloons take off and they are just surrounding you. The day was a photographer's dream day to shoot. Perfect light, although freezing, and a chilling blue sky. Amazing, Amazing vacation!!
Upon our return we packed up and left Hawaii. I now reside in Pensacola Florida and itching to get out and photograph. Now that I'm getting settled in I hope to make it out this weekend. Keep checking the website as I'm uploading the wedding and vacation pictures ASAP.

Night
In Hawaii it is very rare that sunsets disappoint and the other night was no exception. Standing on Kuhio beach the view to the west was spectacular. I need to enjoy this much more often as I have such a limited time left on the island. Let me know what you think of the view.

Self Portrait
So I finally registered on Dgrin and introduced my self with my self portrait. You know it's not easy to take a good self portrait. Between getting the lighting right, trying to get yourself in focus (used a tripod instead of hand held), and making sure the 25mph winds didn't blow all your equipment over, it made for a tough set up. I think it turned out pretty well considering. Definitely a good assignment for any photographer.
